Hatha Yoga is a practice that enables one to quiet outer
influences through movement of the body. After movement, the practice of inward
observation allows a person to see and feel how movement affects the body and
mind. Beginning to practice observation of our selves is one of the first steps
in being actively awake and present. Ananda Yoga is a perfect blend of
spiritual upliftment and physical exhilaration - an invaluable aid to deeper
meditation.
Brenda began practicing Sivananda Yoga in 1995 in order to actively
shift healing therapies from that of only receiving care from a
practitioner to that of self-healing. The practice of Yoga helped
Brenda heal a disorder that was blocking the passage of oxygen to
her brain. She is thankful to her classical acupuncturist, Debbie Jolly,
for recommending she try Yoga.
In 1999, Brenda began to teach Yoga to children at the Sacramento Valley School.
In 2002, she became a certified Ananda Yoga Instructor. She continues to
teach at the Sacramento Valley School, at the Sacramento Yoga Center and at East/West Book Store.
The Sacramento Yoga Center provides a place for people to connect to a variety of yoga techniques and paths. Centrally located, SYC enables more people to find Yoga that fits their constitution best.
Brenda continues to study Yoga at the Ananda Center and to deepen
her meditation practices, utilizing techniques brought to the
United States by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920.
"Happy are those who are wise enough to seek contentment by cultivating true joy and peace in a simple environment."
(Paramhansa Yogananda)
