Babaji, as he was called, at one time lived for 12 years in a cave on
Saptashring Mountain in central India. He founded a small ashram
there. Nearby was the "Saptashring Devi", a statue carved
from the living rock of the mountain, and said to have appeared
as a divine manifestation. Kriyananda met him in
his later years, when he was living in Nasik Road. He was a
humble and simple yogi whose favorite expression can be translated,
"I am a rock and a rock is me." It should be noted that "Swami Prakashananda" is not an uncommon name, and that there are several other swamis of this name who are well-known enough to turn up in a search on Yahoo. Kriya's guru lived in relative obscurity in India until he passed away in 1988. A number of his western students met him through Swami Muktananda, with whom he was closely associated. |
